Beijing North Star Convention and Exhibition Investment Co., Ltd., the investor and developer of the China National Convention Centre (Phase Two) complex project, (CNCC-II), has agreed a strategic co-operation deal with international specialist consultancy GainingEdge. GainingEdge will be responsible for the pre-opening operation and marketing of the convention centre up until 2025.
CNCC-II is located in Beijing Olympic Sports Center Area, in the north of Beijing. It will serve as the Main Media Center (MMC) during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and, post-Games, CNCC-II is expected to open at the start of 2024 as an international convention centre.
CNCC-II has a total floor area of 780,000sqm with its main part of about 420,000sqm serving as the convention centre. Designed by French architect Christian de Portzamparc, the project can host conferences, forums, banquets, and other commercial events for up to 20,000 people, as well as exhibition events for more than 50,000 people. Two hotels are planned to be on site – the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott Marquis.

Rod Kamleshwaran, who leads GainingEdge’s venue advisory business, told EW the firm was honoured to be involved in the project. GainingEdge will provide a full range of consulting services for CNCC-II at the preparatory stage by offering its expertise in venue management and international marketing. “It will assist to position CNCC-II into a leading convention complex in the world, and provide an impressive platform for exchange and communication between China and the world,” he said.
