Davos Forum security chief found dead

SWITZERLAND - The Swiss police chief in charge of security at the World Economic Forum in Davos has been found dead in his hotel room. “All indications point to a suicide,” a police statement said.

Commander Dr Markus Reinhardt had been in charge of security at the five-day forum, due to attract 2,500 of the world’s business and political elite. There are 4,000 soldiers on duty at the Swiss mountain resort amid fortress-like security for the annual blue-chip meeting.

Thirty heads of state and more than 60 ministers are due to attend.

Dr Reinhardt had a reputation for tough handling of unauthorised protestors at the annual Davos meeting.

Speakers at the Forum this year include Myspace and Twitter CEOs, Owen Van Natta and Evan Williams.

Management consultancy Oliver Wyman’s annual report released in Davos indicates 32 per cent of chief executives believe the global economy will experience a ‘double-dip’ recession.
