UBM's cancelled pharma shows bounce back in 2009

INDIA - United Business Media claims the pharmaceutical exhibitions it cancelled in 2008 as a result of the Mumbai terror attacks grew by a fifth last year.

Both CPhI India and P-MEC India are allegedly making the most of a thriving Indian pharmaceutical market, with exhibitor growth up 20 per cent and visitor growth up five per cent on their 2007 outings.

The organiser says the increase at the events, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre Mumbai on 1-3 December last year, reflects continued growth in the fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and bio-pharmaceuticals industries on the Indian sub-continent.

The co-located events, held alongside debut editions of BioPh India and ICSE India at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, hosted more than 770 exhibitors from 20 countries, up 170 on the 600 who attended in 2007, as well as 26,300 attendees.

"With the BioPh India and ICSE India launches and a strong conference programme, Mumbai 2009 was our strongest Indian event since the family was launched here in 2006," says ICSE, BioPh and P-MEC event director, Haf Cennydd.

Further tie-in was achieved through the Indian Government’s new Department of Pharmaceuticals partnerships with UNM on the first India Pharma Summit, an event that attracted over 800 delegates to discuss opportunities and challenges for India as an emerging global pharmaceuticals hub.
