Competition goes to pot

US - Organisers of Michigan’s first exhibition dedicated to medical marijuana have been forced to cancel a key feature of the show following concerns over its legality.

The inaugural Michigan Caregiver's Cup, which runs 30-31 January at the Marriott at Eagle Crest in Ypsilanti, was due to hold a competition to pick the best medical marijuana with approved medical marijuana patients judging the event.

Organiser and executive director of the Michigan Marijuana Chamber of Commerce in Ypsilanti, told USA Today that he wanted people to attend the medical marijuana expo without a cloud of controversy.

"In the interest of the politics behind the event, I don't want to ruffle any feathers," he said.

The inaugural event is designed to offers visitors a chance to meet and hear from representatives of all major legal marijuana-based industries. The two-day expo includes classes and exhibits on how to legally grow, disperse and use medicinal marijuana.
