Haiti - The travel and tourism industry is being called upon to help bring clean water to Haiti in the wake of the 12 January earthquake.
Clean water charity Just A Drop, founded by the chairman of Reed Travel Exhibitions’ World Travel Market, is asking the industry to help raise funds to supply Haiti with clean, safe water.
WTM chairman Fiona Jeffery says the industry must rally together and lend its support to the helpless Caribbean country. “We must face up to the enormous challenges in Haiti,” she said. “Once immediate needs are met, it is vital that support is ongoing so that the recovery process is sustained. That means rebuilding the water and sanitation infrastructure.”
According to the charity hundreds of people have died for lack of clean water, and as much as half of hospital patients are there due to dirty water.
Just A Drop plans to send teams to Haiti to provide continuing support after other relief organisations have withdrawn.
