Canada boosts business in Quebec with $17m expo centre

Canada - Canada hopes to stimulate the Quebecois economy with a new $17 million exhibition facility in the city of Sherbrooke.

The new Centre Regional de Foires de Sherbrooke, a new venue offering almost 7,500 sq/m of exhibition facilities, will be jointly funded by the governments of Canada and Quebec and is expected to generate economic spin-offs of more than $12 million for the Estrie region.

Exhibition facilities will be located outside and on the ground floor, with a conference room, two meeting rooms, a VIP room and a lounge on the first level.

The government of Canada and the government of Quebec are contributing a combined total of around $11,700,000, while the City of Sherbrooke will stump up more than $5,800,000 for the project.

Member of the Quebec National Assembly for Saint-François, Monique Gagnon-Tremblay, says the project will help “offset the lack of infrastructure equipped to accommodate large-scale events, while stimulating economic activity and job creation and revitalizing the community and region”.
