With Labor Day weekend just around the corner, the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) offers some tips to bear in mind to keep our trip as smooth as possible. From security checkpoints to terminal transfers, they offer 10 pointers to make that journey through the airport as smooth as possible:
1. Arrive Early, but Strategically: Beat the crowds by arriving well in advance of your flight. However, also consider peak times and aim for a balance to avoid long waits.
2. Pack Smartly: Streamline your carry-on by packing essentials like travel documents, chargers, and a change of clothes on top for easy access during security checks.
3. Utilise Online Check-In: Save time and secure your preferred seat by checking in online before arriving at the airport.
4. Opt for Mobile Boarding Passes: Go paperless by using mobile boarding passes. Keep them accessible on your phone for a hassle-free experience.
5. TSA PreCheck and Clear: Consider enrolling in expedited security programmes like TSA PreCheck or Clear to breeze through security queues with ease.
6. Follow the 3-1-1 Rule: Pack liquids, gels, and aerosols in containers of 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) or less, placed in a quart-sized, clear, resealable bag.
7. Wear Comfortable Attire: Choose attire and footwear that are comfortable for walking long distances and dealing with various temperature changes.
8. Stay Hydrated and Snack-Savvy: Bring an empty reusable water bottle to fill up after security, and pack healthy snacks to keep your energy up during your travels.
9. Mind Terminal Transfers: If you have connecting flights, familiarise yourself with the airport layout and follow signage for smooth terminal transfers.
10. Keep Travel Apps Handy: Install airline, airport, and travel apps for real-time updates on gate changes, delays, and boarding information.
