OMAN – The Oman Energy, Water and Technology exhibition opens today (12 July) as Oman is set to privatise its power stations and raise money for future energy projects.
The four-day exhibition, organised by Al Gaith International, is the first to focus extensively on the integration of applications in the fields of energy, water and technology.
GM of Al Gaith International, Galal Raskhan, says the exhibition assumes significance in view of the fact that Oman is set to privatise existing power stations and invest RO3bn (US$7.8bn) in new projects in a bid to boost the economy and narrow the budget deficit as demand for electricity grows.
"Oman wants to attract RO3bn worth of foreign investment to its industrial and free trade zones as part of efforts to diversify its oil-based economy. As a result, there are plenty of investment opportunities available in sectors such as industry, tourism, health and IT," he adds.
The exhibition, which will host 120 agencies and 40 companies, also touches on global issues like climate change and global warming.
