NürnbergMesse announces sustainability report findings

NürnbergMesse, an exhibition company based in Germany, has released its 2021 industry report. The report includes a sustainability section, the results of which have been released.

The report found that in the 2021 fiscal year, 57 events were held worldwide with a combined 315,440 visitors. Additionally, NürnbergMesse’s digital platform hosted 18 digital and hybrid events, which hosted 52,000 virtual attendees.

On the return of exhibitions, NürnbergMesse’s CEO, Professor Dr Roland Fleck, said: “Trade fairs as a business model are healthy and strong.”

“Now we need to link the in-person experience with digital added value in our trade fair concepts.”

Sustainable goals

A large sustainability focus was also seen in the report, which NürnbergMesse has stated fulfils the company’s goals and projects based on the “Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive” created by the European Union.

This section covered topics such as power consumption, water use, waste, and sustainable construction. Examples of the findings include:

  • >70% of power savings were due to the use of LEDs across the halls, outdoor lighting, and other locations.
  • Power consumption at the GmbH (kwh) was 10,804,203. This was less than 2020’s figure, which was 12,452,370.
  • Water use (m3) was also down from its 44,010 figure in 2020, with 2021’s consumption being 29,280.
  • NürnbergMesse’s total generated waste (t) for 2021 was 485, which was less than 2020’s total of 1,039.
     

On the importance of sustainability to NürnbergMesse, environment and energy manager Eckehard Wohlgenannt commented: As a trade fair organiser worldwide and as an operator of exhibition grounds, we regard sustainability from an environmental, economic, and social perspective.”
