Global event management company GES has released a fresh ESG Progress Report, which it says follows months of data analysis. The report offers a detailed overview of GES’ ESG achievements to date as well as its plans and aspirations and its release follows the appointment of the business’s first head of ESG (Environment, Social & Governance), Kate Holliday (pictured).
The report carries huge significance for an industry that contributed £10.9bn (US$14.58bn) to the UK economy in 2023 according to the Event Industry Alliance’s recent economic report.
Holliday draw three key conclusions from the report’s work:
- Data is a huge challenge for the industry, but it also presents a huge opportunity. By working together, the industry has the chance to make enormous progress.
- There are increasing opportunities to expand community engagement and exciting ways in which businesses can contribute to social change.
- Innovation and technology – and the speed at which we develop and evolve technology – will dictate the speed at which we can make change. We lean heavily on technology to solve our existing problems and we need it keep apace.
Holliday says: “The past few months have allowed us to really take stock of what GES has achieved and what direction we wish to take – but we can’t do it alone. As an industry we are afforded so many opportunities to make a real and tangible difference but we must be willing to work at it together.”
David Langrish, VP Marketing, GES added: “ESG remains a huge priority for us, and we continue to invest in it. It is vital that we work collaboratively with the industry in order to achieve the greater good and our milestones.”
The Progress Report precedes GES’ more extensive ESG roadmap which is set to be released before the end of the year.
