MEA launches 2019 Ungerboeck Young Professional Scholarship programme

Meetings & Events Australia (MEA) has launched the 2019 Ungerboeck Young Professional Scholarship Programme, a scheme designed to recognise young event professionals who excel in their roles.

This year’s winners will join an elite alumni of event professionals who have gone on to build successful careers as senior managers and leaders in the industry.

The Ungerboeck Young Professional Scholarship programme is open to employees of MEA members 30 years of age or under with fewer than three years’ full-time experience in the meetings and events industry.

Scholarships are awarded to one winner in each state and territory who will have the opportunity to attend Evolve 2020 in the Hunter Valley to develop their skills and network with industry leaders.

Fred Lazzerini, Managing Director Asia-Pacific for global event technology platform Ungerboeck Software International said: “This is the 16th year that we have partnered with MEA on this valuable programme as we understand the importance of nurturing and guiding young event professionals to achieve their career goals. Over the many years, we have seen many recipients of this programme go on to achieve great things in the event industry.”

Robyn Johnson, CEO of MEA, added that recipients of the 2018 scholarship programme had been invited to tell MEA what it meant for them to attend Evolve 2019 in Brisbane held in April this year. Here are a couple of their responses:

“Attending Evolve 2019 was an amazing experience and it was wonderful to share this with the other state winners. I particularly enjoyed learning about event trends, mindfulness techniques, new technology, stories of survival and how determination can be the key to success. The most valuable aspect of the program was getting my name out within the industry and growing my network.

“I highly recommend applying for the scholarship as it gives young professionals a chance to be recognised for their passion and contribution towards the events industry.”

“Winning the Scholarship has not only increased my confidence in my role but also helped me enhance my network, knowledge and understanding of the events industry. Above all, my involvement with MEA has cemented my plan of working in the events industry for the foreseeable future.”

Applications are open and the application process includes interviews with a panel of independent industry event professionals in early February who will identify a recipient from each state and territory.
