A series of major events are coming to Brisbane in the month of May, set to inject AUD$100m into the city’s economy.
These will include the inaugural National Rugby League (NRL) Magic Round Brisbane and the Brisbane Truck Show.
Deputy Mayor Krista Adams commented: “Hosting the Brisbane Truck Show and the inaugural NRL Magic Round Brisbane enhances Brisbane’s reputation as a destination for world-class events, sport fixtures and exhibitions, and will give residents plenty to do over the next two weeks.
“The city is committed to attracting major events, which have a significant impact on our local economy, and brings in extra cash which feeds straight into the bottom line of dozens of businesses around Brisbane.
“Events such as NRL Magic Round Brisbane and the Brisbane Truck Show shine a spotlight on our city, draw interstate and international visitors, fill hotel rooms and deliver flow-on economic benefits for Brisbane’s tourism, retail and hospitality sectors.
“Major events are a key growth sector for Brisbane and we’re committed to attracting and growing our calendar of events in line with the recommendations from the Brisbane 2022 New World City Action Plan.”
Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia Chief Executive Todd Hacking added: “The Brisbane Truck Show has a proud history of showcasing the heavy vehicle industry’s values around safety, innovation, sustainability, careers, knowledge and community, while broadening awareness about the industry’s vital role within the community.”
NRL Magic Round Brisbane will bring the competition’s 16 clubs and almost 300 players to Suncorp Stadium for an action-packed four days of football, in what will be the year’s largest gathering of Australian rugby league stars.
NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said: “This will be one of the real highlights of our season. Magic Round will give us something quite unique and innovative – all 16 of our teams playing in Brisbane over the one weekend. This presents for us huge opportunities to think differently.”
