The International Convention Centre of Barcelona (CCIB), managed by GL Events, has broken its previous turnover record, with €37.2m in 2018.
The figure represents an increase of 11.5% over 2017, and a 3.1% increase compared to the 2007 record, improving on pre-crisis levels.
The CCIB claims loyalty and internationalisation are the reason for the exceptional results. More than 50% of clients returned to the CCIB for their following editions, and international accounted for 87% of turnover.
The CCIB hosted 119 events with 543,451 visitors and delegates in 2018, 14% more than in 2017. In total, since business began, the CCIB has hosted 1,376 events and 6,291,563 visitors.
Major events held at the venue included the seventh Gartner ITxpo Symposium, European film showcase CineEurope, and Huawei’s arrival at the Mobile World Congress.
CCIB says it generated more than 500 full-time jobs in 2018, as well as an economic impact of €469m and 487,000 overnight stays at hotels.
