London City Airport has been given the green light for a £344m plan to improve services and facilities at the airport, and the exhibition and events industry is set to benefit.
East London's event venues, such as The O2 and ExCeL London, will gain business from the increased incoming passengers which are billed to number 6.5m by 2025.
London City Airport welcomed a record-breaking 4.3 million passengers last year.
The City Airport Development Programme (CADP), which is privately funded, will oversee the project.
CAPD's plans:
- A new passenger terminal extension
- Seven new aircraft stands
- The improvements to the airport will enable it to accommodate long haul flights from the capital to destinations in The Gulf and Middle East, Russia and the United States
- Speedy check-in and arrival
"At the heart of this development is a commitment to deliver the speedy check-in and arrival which so many of our customers value and which make London City Airport one of the most convenient airports in London," according to the airport’s website.
