A rundown of airport punctuality for the MICE destinations has named Copenhagen as the top-performing destination.
OAG, the air travel intelligence company, revealed its OAG Punctuality League 2015, ranking of on-time performance (OTP) for the world’s airlines and airports.
For the first time, this year’s league table includes depth and coverage from OAG’s newly consolidated flight status and day-of-travel database, OAG flightview.
In the ‘Top Global Meetings and Conventions Cities’ category, new for 2015, OAG reveals that Copenhagen is the best city in the world for OTP, rated by the combination of OTP of all airports in that city, with the highest average for on-time flights at 88.53%.
Based on the top ICCA destinations, Copenhagen was the 13th most popular conference city by number of meetings globally, having fallen from 8th place in the prior year’s report. Copenhagen also tops 2015’s ‘Best Medium Airports’ in OAG’s Punctuality League.
Berlin reaches second place in OAG’s league with an average OTP of 86.3% although the city only sits fourth in ICCA’s popularity report.
Vienna reaches third place in OAG’s league with an OTP of 85.12% and is ranked second in the ICCA’s most popular conference cities report. Vienna is closely followed by Singapore in fourth place (84.8% OTP and seventh in the ICCA ranking) and Stockholm takes fifth place with 84.2%.
John Grant, senior analyst, OAG, said: “The OTP rankings of airports will always differ across the regions as operational issues such as congestion, competition from other transport modes and scheduling come into play. By including the top meetings and conventions cities in our Punctuality League report, businesses can identify which cities are most, or least, likely to suffer delays – ultimately making decisions on which city to hold meetings in easier. With such an impressive OTP result, perhaps we will see Copenhagen rising up the popular Meetings and Conventions Cities charts next year.
“The Punctuality League benchmarking tool is a powerful ‘key performance indicator’ as well as a potential service differentiator for marketing the products to travellers. An airline’s schedule is a key element of what the traveller is buying – passengers need to be able to plan around realistic and reliable arrival times and connecting time requirements.”
