Six trade and consumer exhibitions are set to merge for the inaugural Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week (ADAAW) in 2016.
The biennial event, to be staged on 6-12 March, will bring together the Unmanned System Exhibition (UMEX Abu Dhabi), Global Aerospace Summit, Abu Dhabi Air Expo, Middle East Aviation Career Exhibition and Conference, Red Bull Air Race, as well as the inaugural Simulation Conference and Exhibition.
“The key objective of hosting Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week is to spark confidence in Abu Dhabi’s aviation sector and increase the number of exhibitions and international conferences hosted by Abu Dhabi,” said Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) acting group chief executive Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri.
"The launch of Abu Dhabi Aviation and Aerospace Week is the outcome of close collaboration between many national organisations that strive to showcase Abu Dhabi’s achievements in aviation and aerospace industries,” Al Dhaheri added.
The week will be jointly organised by ADNEC, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), Mubadala Development Company, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC).
UMEX Abu Dhabi is being staged in conjunction with the UAE Armed Forces.
UAE Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General, Rashid Mohammed Al-Shamsi said: “Bringing specialised events such as UMEX Abu Dhabi and Simulation Conference and Exhibition under ADAAW’s umbrella will provide the UAE Armed Forces with an excellent opportunity to explore and acquire the latest technologies in unmanned systems and simulation techniques.”
To complement a programme of trade events, the eighth Red Bull Air Race, to be held at the Abu Dhabi Cornice area, will give aviation enthusiasts a chance to indulge their need for speed.
“This race brings together the best pilots from around the world to compete in speed, skill and precision. It will be viewed by thousands on site and by millions through TV and media,” said ADSC general secretary Aarif Hama Al-Awani.
