Postponed search and rescue event finds way at AECC

SCOTLAND - An international conference and exhibition postponed in April due to the volcanic activity in Iceland will go ahead at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre this week.

Search and Rescue 2010 is one the largest international gatherings of Search and Rescue (SAR) experts in Europe, covering SAR and Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) across air, maritime, mountain and urban environments.

The event features an international exhibition alongside the two-day conference, and is expected to attract over 300 international delegates and speakers including the chief coastguard of the UK, Captain Roderick Johnson, as well as key industry figures from Canada, Sweden and the USA.

Chief executive of the organiser The Shephard Group, Alexander Giles, said: “Despite the volcanic activity in Iceland earlier this year, which resulted in us postponing our 13th Annual Search and Rescue event, I am delighted we have been able to reschedule.

“Shephard’s SAR has become an essential fixture within the SAR community’s calendar and Aberdeen is a key location to hold this year’s event; as the home to the UK’s oil and gas industry.”

The event takes place on 15 and 16 September.
