Russian exhibition experts call for industry reform

SHANGHAI - Russia needs a single body to develop its exhibition industry and promote the country’s image internationally, representatives of the Russian exhibition industry said in a session at the Shanghai World Expo.

Speaking at the event, the president of Restec Exhibition Company, Sergei Trofimov, said it is now time to revise Russia’s ten-year old policy on exhibitions. “We are ready to be an effective tool, to have interaction at all levels, including executive power, public organisations, exponents and exhibition organisers within one system, which is required to effectively develop the economy,” he said.

His views are supported by Vladislav Malkevich, GM of Moscow Expo Centre, who claimed Russia’s exhibition industry has been scaling back its participation at international events.

Russia’s pavilion at the World Expo is the first it has built in 30 years. It comprises 12 white and gold towers over 6,000sqm.
