South African women call for better trade fair marketing

NAMIBIA - Business has been low at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Women in Business Trade Fair which closed at the Windhoek Show grounds on Wednesday, according to the local newspaper, The Southern Times.

According to the paper, exhibitors believe the fair was not marketed effectively, particularly towards Namibians.

The exhibition received praise from Namibia’s first lady when it launched last Thursday. Penehupifo Pohamba said the fair is an important intervention aimed at sharing information among businesswomen, as well as to training women in various important business aspects, such as improving their exhibition skills to enable them to maximise benefits from the fair.

"I appeal to all well-established businesses, owned by men or women, to mentor those engaged at micro level to have the potential to grow big," said Pohamba.

However, one attendee told the newspaper “Its just us exhibitors here, there are no customers at all. I don't know whether people out there were not well informed or maybe they are just ignoring our business.”

The trade fair took place this year alongside the Regional Trade Fair Investment Forum, also held at the Windhoek Show grounds.

Angola will host the next SADC summit in Luanda in August next year, it was announced at the close of SADC summit yesterday.
