CEIR reports Q2 slowdown in industry decline

USA - The exhibition industry experienced an overall decline of 1.4 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2010, according to research released by the Centre for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR).

While indicators for revenue and net exhibit space sold continued to decline, the rate of decline has slowed since last year. Whereas exhibit space sold and exhibitor numbers declined at a rate of 3 per cent each, last year’s decline was 10.1 and 12.8 respectively. Revenue declined 4.4 per cent compared to 16.9 per cent in 2009.

The Centre anticipates that slow growth will continue through 2010, with results suggesting that if the American economy avoids a ‘double dip’ recession, the fourth quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011 could be the beginning of a true recovery for the exhibition industry.
