Liverpool council doubles Shanghai funding

UK - Liverpool council are prepared to give an extra £330,000 to promote the city at the Shanghai World Expo.

The funding will go towards a “Liverpool Day” to promote the city as an international destination.

“At the end of the Expo something like 750,000 people will have visited the pavilion,” council leader Cllr Joe Anderson told the Liverpool Echo. “It was decided well in advance of the elections that we would support the Expo and try to bring investment to Liverpool.”

The move doubles the council’s funding of the Expo, and comes just days after it announced cuts to projects for the city’s poorer communities.

A report also states that an extra £50,000 is committed “to seize any other opportunities that might present themselves between now and the close of the Expo at the end of October this year”.
