AU$17.7m for Melbourne venue expansion

AUSTRALIA – The Victorian government has approved AU$17.7m to further expand the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC).

The funds will allow land deals and design work to be completed during 2010 and 2011, in a lead-up to the second stage of construction for the exhibition facilities at the venue.

A second stage of construction was planned when the project began.

News of the funding comes on the heels of New South Wales’ announcement of AU$1m to upgrade Darling Harbour and the Sydney Olympic Park.
