International Flora Expo gives Taiwan chance to bloom

TAIWAN - The International Flora Expo, for many considered the ‘Olympic Games for Flowers’, comes into bloom in Taipei 6 November 2010 through to 25 April 2011.

The six-month-long expo has as its theme: ‘River, Flower, New Horizon’, and will have four main areas and 14 themed pavilions. There will be more than 6,000 musical and cultural performances and an expected 300,000 overseas visitors.

The expo is co-organised by the city government and Taiwan Floriculture Development Association (TFDA) and takes place in Taiwan, at Taipei's Xinsheng park (pictured), for the first time.

In a departure from previous events, the exposition will be held in the city center as well as in parks and riversides. In addition, the site plans and designs of this year’s show incorporate urban renewal concepts.

The city’s business tourism chiefs believe the expo will act as “a showcase for Taiwan’s efficiency and state-of-the-art facilities in implementing major international events”.
