MITT claims 17% rise in travel visitors

RUSSIA - ITE Group, the organiser of the 18th Moscow International Exhibition Travel and Tourism (MITT), claims to have received a record number of travel trade visitors at this year’s show.

The official attendance over the four-day tradeshow was 79,850 with 46,300 unique visitors, a 17 per cent increase on the previous year’s show.

Event director Maria Badakh says: “MITT has always been a well-attended event and this year we were delighted to see the aisles even busier than usual.”

The 2010 edition of MITT, held at Moscow’s Expocentre in March, covered a total area of 50,000sqm with 1,750 exhibitors from travel companies and national tourism offices from 185 destinations.

The show’s exhibiting partner this year was Greece, which occupied 1,600sqm with 75 Greek companies. Other destinations that increased the size of their stands included China, Israel, Japan, Ethiopia, Seychelles, Costa Rica, Tunisia and South Africa.

New to the show was the medical tourism sector, which co-located with the Medical Congress, co-organised by treatment-abroad.ru. Badakh says: “The medical sector will become a permanent feature of the show, following this year’s success. In fact, the general feeling amongst participants was that demand far outweighs supply so this is a sector that looks set to grow and grow.”

MITT 2011 will take place on 16-19 March and the second edition of the Medical Congress is due to be held on 17-18 March.
