Jamaican fair organisers look for larger venue

JAMAICA – The organisers of Expo Jamaica 2010, the island's local produce trade fair, say the biennial show needs a new venue as it has now outgrown the National Arena.

The Jamaica Exporters Association (JEA), Jamaica Manufacturers' Association (JMA) and Jamaica Trade and Invest (JTI) claim the arena, which can accommodate 3,000, is already oversubscribed by exhibitors.

Over 200 have signed up for the next event, with 30 more exhibitors denied stands at the event due to capacity limits.

"We have outgrown the National Arena; we need a new facility," said the JEA VP Aswad Morgan, adding that floor space twice the size of the arena was required for the 40-year-old event.

The trade fair, which was previously named the JMA/JEA Expo, was revived in 2006 after a six-year break due to the prevailing need for export earnings.
