Serbia and Bosnia sign agreement at trade show despite collapsed talks

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA - Serbian and Bosnian economic ministers signed an interstate tourism agreement at the 2010 International Economy Fair in Mostar, despite reports of a failed exchange between their presidents at the same event.

Serbia’s economy minister Mladan Dinkic and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s foreign trade and economy minister, Mladen Zirojevic, signed an interstate agreement at the event aimed at boosting co-operation between the two states’ respective tourism sectors.

Dinkic used the event to propose joint sessions of the Serbian, Bosnian and Croatian governments be held every three months, with a view to improving co-operation and economic strengthening of the three countries.

“We must join forces in the region in order to attract foreign guests,” he said. “Only with joint activities can we attract even more investments and remove obstacles among our economies and states.”

The trade fair was opened by Serbian President Boris Tadic, who was due to hold talks, which were later scrapped, with Bosnia presidency chairman Haris Silajdzic.

Serbian president Tadic called for regional economic cooperation and stressed that national and regional projects should be a response to current challenges. "If anyone harbours the illusion that the EU can be joined with different behaviour, they are sorely mistaken," he said, pointing out that every interstate disagreement in the region "repels investors”.
