Informa Markets’ aviation show, MRO Americas – part of Aviation Week – has helped to plant 1,000 trees to offset event emissions as part of an ExpoPlatform initiative.
The Meetings Make Trees green scheme is a project by the event technology provider which aims to reduce the impact of pollution generated by in-person shows. Under the initiative, ExpoPlatform provides the technology and data to facilitate participation and then coordinates tree planting through tie-ups with eco-partners. Organisers agree on a target of meetings booked through the platform which will result in a certain number being planted.
A total of 1,000 trees have now been put to soil in the US as a result of engagement through the MRO Americas event app, with ExpoPlatform and the organiser Aviation Week splitting the costs.
Mark Thomas, marketing director at Aviation Week Network, said: “Aviation Week Network, along with our parent company Informa, is committed to delivering the most sustainable event possible, so this is a great initiative by ExpoPlatform to reward our attendee engagement with a sustainable incentive."
Tanya Pinchuk, CEO of ExpoPlatform, added: “I’m thrilled to see the roots of our Meetings Make Trees initiative taking hold.
“This project helps both organisers and us as a technology provider leave a positive mark on the planet, but also nurtures a greener future for all. Together, we can grow a more sustainable world, one meeting at a time.”
Organisers who take part in the Meetings Make Trees scheme pay for the saplings to be planted, with ExpoPlatform also contributing to the number.
Saplings are usually planted in the country where the show takes place but it can also be somewhere else the organiser prefers.
MRO Americas 2024 brought together more than 16,000 aviation aftermarket professionals to showcase innovations, discuss trends and collaborate for business opportunities.
