Las Vegas hits the jackpot with new trade shows

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) has announced deals that will bring major trade shows to the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) over the next decade.

The National Confectioners Association (CFA) stated that its ‘Sweets and Snacks Expo’ will rotate between Las Vegas and Indianapolis for the next 10 years, with the show being held in Las Vegas every third year beginning in 2026.

The Sweets and Snacks Expo brings together retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers including companies such as Hershey, Ghirardelli, Russel Stover and Jelly Belly Candy Co. to showcase the latest product innovations. The show has been held in Chicago for the past 25 years.

The Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMA) will move its North American edition of Mobile World Congress (MWC) to Las Vegas for the first time, 28-30 September, and will return to the LVCC in 2023.

In addition to signing new shows, the LVCVA has extended several existing convention contracts, including the following:

  • Fancy Food Show 2024 – extended for 15-17 January 2023, and 21-23 January 2024
  • 2023 Wedding MBA Convention – extended for 7-8 November 2023
  • Tobacco Plus Expo 2023 – extended for 22-24 February 2023
  • Cosmoprof 2023 – extended for 11-13 July 2023
  • NFR Cowboy Christmas Gift Show 2022 – extended for 1-10 December 2022.

The signing of new shows comes as the meeting and convention industry continues to recover after the pandemic brought in-person meetings to a halt. In pre-pandemic years, business travel to Las Vegas accounted for more than $11bn in economic impact for the region.

Since in-person meetings and conventions returned to the destination in June 2021, the LVCC has hosted 66 trade shows and events with approximately 900,000 attendees, showcasing confidence by trade show organisers that meetings can be held safely and efficiently.
