International tourism fair FITUR opens Responsible Tourism Prize 2019

Fundación InterMundial, in collaboration with FITUR, the international tourism fair, has opened entries for the show’s 2019 Responsible Tourism Prize.

A jury of professionals from the tourism sector will choose a winner for each of the categories below, with prizes presented at FITUR 2019. The show, organised by IFEMA, runs at Feria de Madrid 23-27 January.

In 2017, the awards' first year, there were 56 candidates from 13 countries for the award. It was launched to recognise the involvement of exhibiting companies at FITUR which are working to develop and stimulate tourism that respects the environment, the economy and the local community.

Companies need to be nominated by 4 January 2019. Full details can be found on the FITUR website

The Responsible Tourism Prize has a range of categories, which a new ‘Blogosphere’ division added for 2019, to recognise the blog which, with its content, works to raise awareness in society around sustainable tourism practices.

The full list of categories is:

  • Hotel and catering trade (accommodation, catering and related services)
  • Tourist transport and tourism products and services (means of transport, airports, incentives and conferences, tour operators, agencies, leisure, health, etc.)
  • Tourist destinations
  • Blogosphere
