Fira de Barcelona will launch two new events in Chengdu and Hangzhou, China, in a bid to connect the Asian market with Catalan and Spanish companies.
Alimentaria Chengdu, taking place on 19-20 September, is the first Chinese edition of Fira de Barcelona’s leading food and beverage show. It will feature an exhibition area with 100 companies and associations, presenting their latest innovations in food and beverage products.
Highlights will include a competition between chefs in the Smart Taste Global Cook-Off, with participation from the likes of pastry chef Adrián Ramírez, and a masterclass session on Spanish olive oils.
Smart City Expo Hangzhou, 25-29 September, will tackle the topic of emerging cities in Asia, and how new technology can shape their development. The host city of Hangzhou is itself a case study: Alibaba recently slashed the huge traffic problem in Hangzhou using its 'City Brain', an artificial intelligence programme that analyses traffic in real time, coordinating over 1,000 road signals across the city.
200 experts will take part in the event, sharing strategies about building the optimal ‘smart city’. More than 80 companies will exhibit.
Fira de Barcelona already operates two exhibition centres in China in the cities of Nanchang and Xuzhou. In 2024, these venues will host over 70 events, including the 21st China Livestock Exhibition at Nanchang and the third International Construction and Machinery Show at Xuzhou.
