Venue management and event strategy specialists, ASM Global has appointed Charles Beirne as general manager of the Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Centre, Florida, US.
Beirne has worked at the company since 2006, most recently as general manager of the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in California.
The venue is part of the ASM Global portfolio and is undergoing a US$1.3bn expansion project.
Bob McClintock, executive vice-president of convention centres at ASM Global, said: “After overseeing a $60m capital improvement project at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Centre, Charlie is the perfect candidate to manage the exciting new expansion at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center.”
Beirne commented: “I am deeply honoured for this next-step opportunity in my ASM career, one that will allow me to move back to the East Coast where I started my career.”
Below are details of the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center expansion that Beirne will oversee:
- An extension of the main Exhibit Hall for a total of 32,500sqm
- A new 6,000sqm ballroom facing
- An additional 4,650sqm of meeting space to accommodate multiple events or breakouts.
- An 800-room connecting upscale headquarter hotel operated by Omni Hotels.
- Upgrades including technologies, innovative dining concepts, pre-function space and modern décor that aims to complement Greater Fort Lauderdale’s waterfront destination.
- Waterfront plaza with multiple group event spaces.
- Energy and Environmental Design® gold certified.
