No more ‘Future of Events’ in Amsterdam

Future-of-Events

Future of Events, an industry event founded by Steven Wickel has been cancelled with under four weeks to go until the show opened at RAI Amsterdam. The company is to file for bankruptcy.

A statement on the event website from Future of Events MD Wickel said that the show, scheduled for 22-24 August, was being cancelled due to low ticket sales, “despite extensive social media promotions, weekly growing visitor rates on the website, the best line-up of industry speakers, contributors and top exhibitors”.

“This low number of attendees forces me to make an economic decision and cancel Future of Events Amsterdam,” said Wickel, who added that he was “disappointed” with the outcome.

A curator will be appointed by a Dutch Court of Justice to sort through all the obligations of Future of Events and Wickel promised to publish the address of the curator on the Future of Events website by the end of next week.

“Therefore, and with regret, I can only wish everybody success in the future,” he added.

Twitter marketing for the event had included a new style badge design and the slogan: ‘We guarantee out attendees anonymity’. Appears it was not too hard to honour that pledge.
