A humanoid robot stole the show at SABC Education African EduWeek in South Africa earlier this month.

Organised by Spintelligent, the African partner of UK-based Clarion events, the ninth edition of African EduWeek brought together teachers, education professionals, institutions and suppliers.

The show attracted 3309 visitors to the Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg, on 1-2 July, a 15 per cent increase on last year.

A highlight was a presentation from educator and technologist Graham Brown-Martin, who introduced humanoid robot NAO during the E-tech Africa sessions.

The duo made a surprise guest appearance at the event’s glamorous gala dinner, which featured the inaugural African EduWeek Awards, hosted by TV personality Gareth Cliff.

The event featured 107 exhibitor stands, up from 75 in 2014. Exhibitor areas included publishing, inclusive education, safety and security, technology and services for educational institutions.

The next edition of African EduWeek will be held on 29-30 June 2016.
