Downtown Bangkok the rising star of Thailand’s latest MICE incentive

Thailand's tourism officials have unveiled the country’s latest MICE incentive, which will focus on enticing business travellers to the city’s downtown area.

The Thailand Convention and Exhibitor Bureau (TCEB) unveiled its Thailand CONNECT : Ratchaprasong Square Traders Association (RSTA) Welcome Package with a bang on 20 July.

EW was among more than 30 international journalists gathered for the launch at the Anantara Siam Bangkok hotel.

The first stage of the welcome programme, launched in 2014, comprised a special edition BTS Connect SmartPass rail card as well as one-hour of Free Wifi, offered in collaboration with True Corporation, for MICE travellers.

TCEB officials have revealed plans to expand the programme to include unique experiences in Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong district, with the city’s fast-developing riverside precinct expected to follow.

Chair Srivikorn, president of Ratchaprasong Square Traders Association (RSTA) said the group had renewed its commitment to the welcome programme for a second year and would open a tourist information centre at Amarin Plaza next month.

“We are certain the number of MICE travellers is likely to surge this year,” Srivikorn said of the 1-square-kilometre precinct, which attracted 300,000 visitors daily. “Happy, fun and safe, that’s our motto,” he added.

Srivikorn said the entire precinct was covered by 24-hour security cameras and had plans to add connecting walkways and improved signage to help visitors.

Benefits of the Thailand CONNECT: RSTA package include food and beverage discounts, of 10 to 15 per cent, at hotels including Anantara Siam Bangkok, Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam and the St Regis Bangkok. The InterContinental Bangkok, Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong and Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld will also offer spa discounts.

In addition, nine spas, restaurants and cafes have signed up to offer dining and retail privileges ranging from 10 to 20 per cent discounts.

RSTA member hotels will also offer breakfast, a welcome drink, business and fitness centre access and parking as standard, with additional options available on request.

Thailand’s MICE United campaign, which includes the Thailand CONNECT Welcome Package was founded by Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Airways International, the RSTA and TCEB.
