Salt Lake venue to install largest solar array in USA

USA - The Salt Palace convention and exhibition centre in Salt Lake City, Utah, will become home to the United States’ largest array of solar panels by January 2011.

The 55,750sqm area will hold 11,319 panels, more than doubling the state’s current solar capacity and producing around a quarter of the venue’s annual energy consumption.

President and CEO of the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau, Scott Beck, said: “A project of this scope and scale, combined with our current commitment to sustainable practises, helps move Salt Lake well down the path of being one of the nation’s top locations for sustainable conventions and meetings.”

Other energy-efficient technology to be installed at the Salt Palace is expected to save more than US$175,000 annually.

Standing 1,400 metres above sea level, the venue receives about 300 hours of sunlight annually.
