High winds cancel Canadian International Air Show opening

CANADA - The Canadian International Air Show’s opening display over Toronto was cancelled on 4 September due to high winds, which prevented rescue crafts operating on Lake Ontario.

Held at the Canadian National Exhibition Centre (CNE) on the Canadian Labour long weekend, the annual show opening was postponed until the next day.

“The show remains one of the city’s major annual attractions,” says a statement from organiser. “It is an important business generator for the local economy which literally millions of spectators around southern Ontario continue to enjoy.”

The show’s theme for this year is the celebration of 100 years of the Canadian navy and 100 years since the first woman got her pilot's licence.

Exhibitors included the Canadian Snowbirds, the Bellanca Scout Tow Plane and the Schweizer 2-33 Glider.
