AU$10M for Sunshine Coast Arts and Exhibition Centre

AUSTRALIA - If the Liberal National party is voted into power at this year’s Australian national elections, it is set to commit AU$10m (US$8.8m) to refurbish the “much-needed” Arts and Exhibition Centre for the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, Queensland.

“The Sunshine Coast is underdone when it comes to entertainment facilities; we desperately need a world-class art and exhibition centre and a Liberal National government will commit $10m to that cause,” says LNP Member for Fisher, Peter Slipper, who notes that while the region had several smaller entertainment complexes, its high growth and development as a modern city would benefit from a state of the art centre.

“The venues we have at Nambour, Caloundra, Noosa and Bokarina are valued, but a larger venue will help attract a different level of world class entertainment, shows and conventions,” he adds. “We have thousands of Sunshine Coast residents attending shows in Brisbane each year; a larger arts and entertainment centre would cater to that market locally by bringing those major events here.”

A business plan and feasibility study is underway into the project.
