Comic Con delays venue decision

USA - Comic-Con International has postponed deciding on the home for its flagship Comic Con until after this year’s event.

Both Anaheim and Los Angeles have been fighting in a bidding war with San Diego for the huge event, and the organiser originally hoped to announce the future venue before the opening of the 2010 show. Now no decision will be made until the show finishes its run from 22 to 25 July at the San Diego Convention Centre.

One sticking point for a future deal is the request from Comic-Con that local hotels sign contracts guaranteeing room rates through 2015.

“I don’t think all the hotels have signed contracts yet, and the truth of the matter is because the situation won’t be resolved this week from our end, I think this is being tabled right not,” spokesman for the organiser, David Glanzer, told the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“We’re already spread thin right now. Ninety-nine per cent of our time is ensuring the show is successful,” he added.
