Reykjavik to increase presence on events stage with new venue

ICELAND – A new £138m conference and exhibition centre is “on schedule” to open in Reykjavik in May next year.

Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre will have four separate halls covering 28,000sqm, meaning exhibition and convention business is also on the business radar. The new venue will be located on the main harbour.

"As we see the centre emerge on the skyline, everyone is starting to imagine how it will strengthen Reykjavík as one of the most attractive business capitals in Europe," says chairman of real estate company Portus, Pétur J. Eiríksson.

The largest conference hall will be able to host 750 delegates, with the main concert hall able to sit up to 1,800.

"We already have a few conferences booked in for next year," marketing manager Hrönn Ingólfsdóttir tells EW. "This includes the 41st annual EABCT Orthodontic Congress coming over in August."
