The Strip pays its political dues for 2011 Tourism Summit

USA - The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) will host the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) 11th Global Travel and Tourism Summit in 2011.

The Summit will be held at ARIA Resort and Casino, which was opened on the Las Vegas Strip in December 2009 and is a joint venture between MGM Mirage and Infinity World Development Corp, a subsidiary of Dubai World. The event is scheduled for 15-19 May 2011.

Las Vegas’ Summit bid was strengthened by support from local and regional governments, as well as key industry bodies, says president and CEO of WTTC, Jean-Claude Baumgarten.

According to WTTC’s figures, travel and tourism in the USA is expected to account for 9.2 per cent of gross domestic profit (US$1,375bn) in 2010, with 13.7m people employed in the wider travel and tourism economy, 9.9 per cent of the total working population.

The 10th edition of the summit takes place 25-27 May 2010 in Beijing under the theme: World’s Leading Industry - Reaching New Frontiers.
