London Fashion Week and Burberry go 3D

WORLD - Clothing exhibition London Fashion Week is set to become the first event to be broadcast in 3D live around the world.

British label Burberry will stream its shows to screens in Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Dubai. The idea is to replicate being at the front row of the catwalk and viewers, who will wear 3D glasses, should be able to see fabrics in greater detail.

"We are excited we are hosting the first ever truly global fashion show," says Burberry CCO, Christopher Bailey. "It will enable people from all over the world to experience the energy of the show. The 3D technology will allow our particular audience to see the colours, fabrics and feel part of that moment when it all finally comes together."

The 'by invitation only' screenings will use Sky TV technology, which also broadcast the world’s first ever football match in 3D last month. This also follows the hugely successful 3D film Avatar, which become the highest grossing film of all time this year.

And, for those not lucky enough to get an invite, the British Fashion Council says it will stream shows live in 2D via the London Fashion Week website.
