Pennsylvania Convention Center opens new on-site training centre

The Pennsylvania Convention Center (PCC) has opened a new on-site training centre to provide the facility’s staff and labour partners with programmes focused on safety, development of technical skills, as well as customer service and hospitality.

The centre includes a conference room for hosting instructor-led training programmes as well as two computer labs for online training.

The 1,000 square-foot training facility is part of the Center’s Hospitality Industry Advancement Trust (HIAT) Fund, a partnership between the management of the PCC and the labour organisations responsible for providing show floor labour to the facility’s customers.

The HIAT Fund is focused on enhanced training in three general areas: safety, development of technical skills, and customer service/hospitality.

The Center’s management team and our labour partners understand that delivering the best possible experience to our trade show, event, convention and meeting customers makes us more competitive,” said John J. McNichol, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority. “The HIAT Fund and this training initiative represent a long-term commitment to ensuring the labour personnel who work in our facility not only have the latest safety and skills training, but also a high-level of hospitality-focused training.”

The HIAT Fund is believed to be the only joint training initiative of its kind in the country. Training programmes at the new centre will also focus on educating ASM Global team members about industry best-practices, include ASM Global Academy and Experience training.

ASM Global Academy, a proprietary learning and development platform, includes more than 1,800 multi-language content courses that provide team members an opportunity to complete self-paced learning programmes. Training courses include guest services, diversity, equity and inclusion, food safety, inclusive culture, sustainability, operations, safety and security, and leadership. The programme utilises gamification, badges, leaderboards, quizzes and evaluations to create a comprehensive e-learning experience. It includes an industry-leading 34 safety course created specifically for venue management.
