Key tradefair for the optical industry, opti, will move to the halls of Messe Stuttgart in 2021. Organiser GHM has also signed up to the Messe for the 2023 and 2025 editions.

January 2021 will see opti move from Munich to Stuttgart for the first time.

Messe’s Vice-President of Guest Events Stefan Lohnert welcomes the move. “We are delighted to see this renowned tradefair for ophthalmic optics in Stuttgart in the future,” he said. “Although we have very good occupancy rates, a suitable window could still be found for opti,” he added.

“With Messe Stuttgart we have found a location that offers us the best possible development potential,” added Dieter Dohr, CEO of GHM.

The entire south area of Messe Stuttgart with Hall C2, Hall 4, Oskar Lapp Hall (Hall 6), Alfred Kärcher Hall (Hall 8) and Paul Horn Hall (Hall 10) has been reserved initially with the option of an extension in 2023. Talks are already underway about a long-term strategic partnership, the partners said.

Around 630 exhibitors from 40 countries attended opti 2019, in January in Munich. The show presents the trade audience with a full spectrum of ophthalmic optics and eyewear from spectacle frames, lenses, contact lenses, refraction, diagnostics and low vision products to shopfittings and technical equipment. opti is the platform for product premières of both international market leaders and start-ups.

The organiser reported 28,000 visitors from around the world coming to Munich to take an interest in the products and services.

With total earnings of €178m and a profit of €34m, Messe Stuttgart is one of Germany's leading tradefair companies. Every year over 23,500 exhibitors present their products and services to up to 1.36m visitors across a hall area of 120,000sqm, an outdoor area of 40,000sqm and in around 33 rooms and the adjoining International Congress Center Stuttgart.
