The international tradefairs schedule published by Spain’s secretary of state for commerce shows that Madrid is the country’s busiest destination, with a 35.5% share of planned international exhibitions in 2021.
The capital’s IFEMA venue is a major contributor to these figures and is planning, Covid notwithstanding, to host 37 of the 38 international shows currently scheduled to take place in Madrid in 2021.
After Madrid comes Barcelona, in second place with 30% and 32 fairs, followed by Valencia (10.3%), Zaragoza (7.5%) and Vizcaya (3.7%).
The government’s calendar – which is provisional and dependent on the lifting of travel restrictions imposed by the health crisis – includes a total of 107 international fairs for this year in Spain.
This schedule includes the fairs AULA, International Postgraduate and Continuing Education Exhibition, RED + INTERDIDAC Congress, World Olive Oil Exhibition, the fairs that make up ePower & Building, GENERA, TRAFIC, IBERZOO + PROPET, BISUTEX, INTERGIFT, MADRIDJOYA, VENDIBÉRICA, MOMAD, ARCOmadrid, PROMOGIFT, FITUR, FRUIT ATTRACTION, C&R, FERIARTE, SALÓN LOOK, TECMA, SRR, DES-Digital Enterprise Show, LIBER and MBFWMadrid.
The government is expecting to fire the starting gun for Spain’s international shows in March 2021 with the ESTAMPA Contemporary Art Fair, to be followed later in the month by the WOOE World Olive Oil Exhibition and the events that make up Education Week.
In April, the fairs that make up the International Gift Week, in addition to the EXPODENTAL Scientific Congress, Antik Passion ALMONEDA EXPOFRANQUICIA, MULAFEST and MotorMeetings by MOTORTEC, IFEMA’s new project for the automotive aftermarket sector, will all help to bring the different economic sectors they represent back to life.
With more than a hundred major events across a variety of economic sectors, Spain’s exhibitions industry is working to recover the pace of its regular activities and reposition itself as a driving force for stimulating the city’s economy.
Madrid’s events ambition was recently highlighted at the World MICE Awards 2020, in which Spain's capital was named Europe's Best MICE Destination, and IFEMA the World's Best Convention Centre.
