ReedPop retires BookExpo and BookCon

ReedPop has announced it is retiring its show BookExpo, as well as the fan-based BookCon and merchandise show UnBound.

BookExpo describes itself as the “#1 book and author event for the publishing industry.” It was previously held in New York’s Javits Center, but was this year held virtually due to Covid-19.

Now, it is being retired while ReedPop considers the next step for the show.

In a statement, Reed event director Jennifer Martin said: “The pandemic arrived at a time in the life cycle of BookExpo and BookCon where we were already examining the restructure of our events to best meet our community’s need.

“This has led us to make the difficult decision to retire the events in their current formats, as we take the necessary time to evaluate the best way to move forward and rebuild our events that will better serve the industry and reach more people than we were able to before. We remain committed to serving the book community and look forward to sharing more information in the future.”

Previous speakers at BookExpo have included Margaret Thatcher, Bill Clinton and Margaret Atwood.

ReedPop is the pop culture event-focused division of Reed Exhibitions.
