EUROPE - The Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre is clearing the decks to bid a warm welcome to teams competing in the world’s longest professional sporting event.
Competitors in the nine-month Volvo Ocean Race are expected to sail into Gothenburg between June 21 and 28, after covering a gruelling 38,739 nautical mile (71,745km) course.
To celebrate the teams’ arrival, the Swedish Exhibition Congress Centre (SECC) and Gothia Towers are staging a free welcome home party complemented by The Welcome Home Expo.
More than 350,000 people are expected to visit the race village in Frihammen, Gothenberg, where pop up bars and restaurants will add to the carnival atmosphere.
Meanwhile, The Welcome Home Expo, spanning 7000sqm, will focus on homes and interiors as well as garden design.
Swedish Exhibition and Congress Centre spokeswoman Lisa Callert said expo participants could expect good exposure.
“Our exhibition is located just inside the main entrance, which 80 per cent of visitors are expected to pass,” Callert said.
