Tense political outlook leads to Bahrain fair cancellation

BAHRAIN – World Trade Fair has postponed its International Jewellery Bahrain 2011 exhibition in light of grim political forecasts.

The exhibition was to run from 12 to 15 April at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

“After serious discussion with the organising partners, contractors and agents in the past two days, we, World Trade Fair, regrettably decide to postpone the subject exhibition due to the unforeseen political situation in the Middle East, especially in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” said the organisers via a statement on the show’s website.

“The current tense situation is predicted to continue,” it continued, “and events to spread to the neighbouring nations in the coming months. To concern the personal and property security of our esteemed exhibitors, we have no alternative but to put the exhibition on hold until further notice.”

The organiser says it will negotiate with Bahrain’s government for a different date.

The announcement follows comments by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa on the importance of the exhibition industry’s contribution to the economy.
