Thai-Cambodia Trade Fair goes ahead despite clash

CAMBODIA - The Thailand-Cambodia Trade Exhibition in Phnom Penh is going ahead as originally planned, although postponement was discussed following border clashes between the two countries.

Director of the Thai Embassy’s Foreign Trade Promotion Office in Phnom Penh, Jiranan Wongmongkol, confirmed that Thai Deputy Prime Minister Trairong Suwankiri would open the exhibition, due to run from 17 to 20 February.

“We have to continue cooperation on all other sectors with Thailand,” he said. “The area that has been disputed, we resolve the conflict at that area and contain it from spreading further.”

Bilateral trade between Thailand and Cambodia rose by more than 40 percent in 2010 to US$2.6bn year-on-year.
