Singex to build new meetings facility

SINGAPORE – The Singapore Expo Convention and Exhibition Centre (Singex) is to begin construction on its new convention facility in the new year.

The trade show venue, owned by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, currently has conference facilities at just one end of the ground, with the Max Pavilion performance hall at the other.

The layout has drawn some criticism from expo organisers that trade heavily on a significant conference programme, because delegates at one end of the structure would need to cross all eight halls in order to reach the current conference facilities in Hall One.

A spokesman for Singex said the development would help the growth of the MICE industry in Singapore, and meet “the evolving needs of organisers, exhibitors and delegates”.

“A key focus of the upgrading is the enhancement of existing facilities and the development of a new meetings building which will be equipped with the state of art audio-visual, lighting and technical capabilities,” they added.

Alongside the new conference facilities, the second phase of development at Singex will include a new courtyard, mobile F&B kiosk and refurbishment to the existing conference halls with new finishing, lightings and sound system.
