Amsterdam RAI is European front runner in CSR

HOLLAND – Amsterdam RAI has set itself the target of becoming the most sustainable exhibition and conference location in Europe by 2013. The RAI’s second sustainability report, just published, shows the Dutch venue continues to be a European frontrunner in the field of CSR

“The Dutch economy has been heavily affected by the financial recession over the past year and Amsterdam RAI has also felt the impact,” said Chairman of the Board, Hans Bakker. “We were able to overcome these challenges in 2009 by implementing cost savings and increasing efficiency. However, we intentionally refused to make any substantial compromises to our CSR policy, as this might have derailed our goal of becoming leader in the European event industry within five years.”

The RAI will continue its cooperation with leading Dutch transport companies NS (rail) and GVB (tram/bus) as it aims to intensify the use of public transport for all events and exhibitions.

The RAI is also reinforcing its structural approach to further reducing energy consumption, while also stimulating corporate social responsibility among its stakeholders.

The second sustainability report was developed in cooperation with the BECO Group and in accordance with the framework of the Global Reporting Initiative. The complete 2009 sustainability report is available in English via www.rai.nl
